The title of the article is, “Alcoa Elementary library hatches Chickens.” This article talk about how Alcoa elementary school did something different in their school and hatched chicks in their library. They used an incubator and wanted to give the kids real world experience to go along with the books they were reading. The librarian bought 6 eggs off of Amazon, and a friend gave her 6 more. The eggs were in the incubator for about three weeks. The chicks new home will be at the librarians farm along with goats, donkeys, and a tarantula.

This article basically talks about how companies are going to stop hiring people who use tobacco products or nicotine products. The new law policy, which takes effect this month, is expected to cut the company costs. There is little evidence that wellness plans will improve employee health, or lower health care costs. Smoking-related medical expenses add nearly $120 billion a year to an employer. Employers also suffer $150 billion in lost productivity due to smoking and related health issues. About 10% of employers provide other infinitives as well.

This relates to agriculture because with the employers trying to get rid of the use of tobacco products, this means the demand for farming tobacco products will go down.

This article in specific is so special to have its own post because it is inspired, and the idea of my agriculture teacher, Mia Sullivan, and the FFA at my school (which I am a part of)

It explains what the plants look like when they are dying, and what you can do to help them. Some ways to help your plants is to: change their soil, change how often or how much you water them, or trim the plant stems. In conclusion, the purpose of this article is to inform readers on what they can do to keep their house-plants alive during winter.

Our second article is from January 31st, 2020. The article is from the money section of The Daily times, and the title of the article is,”Let the rigs roll at first Food Truck Festival.”

This article is more informational than anything. You might be thinking to yourself, how does a food truck have anything to do with agriculture? Well, Agriculture is a wide variety of things, including literally almost anything that has to do with food. Because if you think about it, where do you think the food is coming from that they are selling from these food trucks? Either a garden, animal, or a farmer, and all of those are the heart of agriculture!

So back to the article…

The article starts off by talking about how, “If the mountains will not come to the foodies, the food trucks will come to the mountains.” On March 27-28, Simply Greater Design and Events is hosting the inaugural Great Smoky Mountain Food Truck Festival at the Little Arrow Outdoor Resort. There will be nearly 40 food trucks in attendance. The festivals site will include a play-ground for children and games like corn-hole and horseshoes. The Smoky Mountain Tourism Development Authority and food truck caterers hope that the event will boost tourism in the area. Tickets to the festival are $5 and that ticket will include parking. The article ends by saying that you can find more information on their Facebook page @ GSM food truck festival.

Our second article is from January 17th, 2020 by The Daily Times. The title of this article is “Agriculture trade in Mexico.” This article basically talks about how trade all year of 2019 was difficult because of the weather. Hundreds of thousands of acres of crops were destroyed either because of flooding or drought. The head of the trade market believes that these weather conditions could be the cause of these huge decrease in the price of the trade products. We are expecting this to change since we recently signed an agreement with Japan that will provide improved access to the Japanese market. The article continues to go on by saying, “Canada and Mexico are among the most important markets for the U.S. Ag exports, and these exports are also expected to increase.” In conclusion, with the new agreement signed, our trade market is expected to increase greatly for the better.
